Competition winner
The gold bike we were offering as a competition prize has been won by Amanda Mills from Bristol.
What kind of bike is it?
It started its life as a Charge Plug, which is a single-speed model of the kind made popular by cycle couriers. Very little of the bike is now standard. The frame has been stripped, polished, plated in copper and then finished in 24ct gold. The wheels have been re-built using deep-v rims and the chain, seat and bars are custom. In other words, the machine is one of a kind.
What about the environmental concerns surrounding gold mining?
We employed a plating company that looks to buy gold from small-scale, artisanal mines and has a commitment to fair trade and environmental sustainability.
What is the value of the bike?
It’s for sale at £9,500.
Is it true the bike comes with its own security guard?
Yes, but it’s an optional extra. Our cycle insurance policy is the most comprehensive on the market, but it won’t cover bikes worth over £4000. If you buy the bike from us we will happily quote for the cost of its own security guard.
