The Origins of Car Free Day
The ETA has co-ordinated three annual National Car-Free Days in Britain since 1997. National Car Free Day was part of Green Transport Week and towns and cities across Britain participated.
In June 2000, we joined with our European neighbours to create European Car Free Day involving the closing of roads in towns and city centres throughout Europe.
Today, European Car Free Day is known as In Town Without My Car and people across Europe particpate.
What is the ETA?
The ETA provides motorists and cyclists with carbon-neutral breakdown cover and insurance products. As well as encouraging responsible driving to reduce carbon, the ETA campaigns for sustainable transport.
