The Earth as One
Posted Wednesday, 24th December, 2008 by Andrew Davis
It was forty years today that humankind first saw pictures of the Earth from space – probably one of the most significant moments in human history.
On Christmas Eve 1968 Apollo 8 passed behind the dark side of the moon and had radio silence for eight minutes. As communications began again they sent a picture of Earth in space.
Up until that moment we could only imagine how we would be seen from space but hereafter we would have this iconic image of our beautiful planet.
All our differences pale into insignificance.
