Cycle paths part of new plans

The introduction of dedicated cycle lanes is one of the key points in a new document on Greater London transport
Mayor Boris Johnson this week unveiled the Way To Go paper, which outlines numerous transport changes for the capital.
Within the document Mr Johnson reveals his amazement at the lack of paths and facilities for bike riders: “It is an utter disgrace that there is no decent cycle lane on the Victoria Embankment or on the north side of the park.”
He goes on to say he "cannot understand" the restrictions placed on cycling within the Royal Parks."
The paper also announces several transport plans will be axed, decisions which will result in a saving of around £3 billion.
Thames gateway bridge cancelled
Boris Johnson said his decision to cancel plans for the Thames gateway bridge ended the “deception” of his predecessor, Ken Livingstone, who had ordered officials to draw up plans for the Thames Gateway project amid opposition from environmental campaigners.
The scrapping of the motorway-scale Thames Gateway road bridge has been welcomed by green campaigners as one of the most significant rejections of car traffic ever made.
A year-long public inquiry had already rejected the £450m bridge for environmental, social and economic reasons. Plans for the bridge also lacked any provision for cyclists.
Latest figures show there are 500,000 journeys made on bicycles each day in London. The statistics represent a 91 per cent increase since 2000
