Electric cars to 'lead green field'

Electric cars are set to dominate the green vehicle sector, it is claimed.
According to Alex Molinaroli, president of Johnson Controls, battery vehicles are poised to out-sell their green fuel-based rivals, with profits for the industry expected within five years.
Mr Molinaroli claims manufacturers will struggle to "afford to keep investing in all these different technologies", adding long-term plans are based on electric cars.
He continues: "People talk about fuel cells, but I don’t really see the kind of energy and effort around that that I see around the electric power train."
According to the company president, China could be the scene of electric car mass production. However, he claims consumers will be reluctant to buy any vehicle unless the current economic climate improves.
Battery, fuel cell or hybrid?
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “Nobody knows whether battery, fuel cell or hybrid technology will emerge as the successor to conventional fuels – twenty five years ago we were being told for certain that the Betamax video format would triumph over VHS.”
Earlier this week, a deal between Johnson Controls and BMW was revealed which will see the car giant supplied with lithium-ion batteries for its hybrid range.
