Mayor sets out environmental transport plans for London
London Mayor Boris Johnson will put in place a series of plans to improve the environmental efficiency of the British capital.
Initiatives include trebling the number of recharge points for electric cars in the next two years, forming an electric vehicle partnership for London and promising better legislative coordination between the city’s boroughs.
The move has been welcomed by electric car company NICE, which claims steps are being made to turn London into a greener city.
Evert Geurtsen, co-founder of the company, said: "This is all excellent news. Incentives that are clear, consistent and tangible are absolutely central to accelerating the take-up of all-electric cars. This announcement shows Mr Johnson is on the right road."
Last week, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders stated UK motorists can check the CO2 emissions of vehicles they are looking to buy by using a colour-coded label.
The organisation pointed out the labels are currently used in 93 per cent of car dealerships.
