Dyson to build electric car

You’ve got the vacuum cleaner, now get the car – James Dyson has turned his attention to the electric car and plans to design one in conjunction with a major manufacturer.

Dyson car will use solar panels

Dyson plans to collaborate with a major manufacturer such as Honda to use the technology behind his range of hugely successful vacuum cleaners as the basis for an electric car. He aims for his design to have a superior range to the GWizz – currently the best-sellig electric car in Britain.

The GWizz needs an 8-hour charge before it is able to achieve its maximum range of forty miles. A solar panel in the roof of Dyson’s car will provide power to top up its batteries.

Dyson believes electric cars will outnumber petrol ones within a decade.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association said: “Dyson’s skill is as much about knowing the market as it is creating clever design; his best-selling products have been related to gardening and cleaning – both activities ingrained in British culture.”

“Electric cars are waiting for the technology to allow their performance to rival conventionally-powered vehicles and the marketing to make them appealing – Dyson is well placed to deliver both.”
