Most expensive bicycle in Britain

A bicycle has gone on sale today that is so expensive it can’t be insured, so it is being sold with the ultimate optional extra – its own security guard.

The £9,500 custom-made, 24ct gold-framed is too valuable to be insured (the Environmental Transport Association’s cycle policy covers bike up to a value of £4,000). As a result the bike is being offered with the optional extra of a security guard who will stand guard over the gold bike when it is left in public.

With less than ten days before the start of Green Transport Week, it is believed the bike may be bought by a ‘cyclist who has everything’.

Director at the ETA, Andrew Davis said: “A personal security guard is not a practical option for most people, but with over half a million bicycles stolen across Britain each year, it’s vital that cyclists are properly insured.”

The ETA is a not-for-profit ethical organisation providing motorists with carbon-neutral breakdown cover and insurance products. As well as encouraging responsible driving to reduce carbon, the ETA campaigns for sustainable transport.

The ETA provides the most comprehensive cycle insurance policy on the market.
