Chaos at T5 for second day running

The chaos at British Airway’s (BA’s) new Terminal 5 continued into its second day, after passengers faced more delays, baggage problems and cancellations.

A further 36 flights were cancelled today, a worsening on yesterday’s 34 cancellations.

One mother was particularly concerned as her two children were flying alone back from Amsterdam and their flight had been delayed due to the problems.

Sonia Winner said: “It’s slightly nerve-wracking for me. The girls are anxious too. They are on their own and just want to come home.”

Ms Winner had told her daughters to abandon their luggage and take any possessions they could in carrier bags, in order to bypass the baggage reclaim system.

Willie Walsh, the chief executive of BA, said: “I would be misleading you if I said everything is going to be sorted out today because we are still encountering some difficulties that we’re sorting out as we go through the day.”
