London should have new eco-friendly airport

One of the London mayoral candidates has said that London should have a more eco-friendly airport.
Boris Johnson was speaking on BBC Radio 4 when he made his comments criticising Heathrow.
“I certainly don’t see why we continually entrench a gross planning error of the 1940s by treating Heathrow as the only possible place in which to expand infinitely London’s major international airport,” said Mr Johnson.
He said it was time to “revive the idea of a new airport” and that it should be environmentally-friendly.
Mr Johnson said that one situated in the Thames estuary could “deliver a long term solution”.
“I certainly think one of the things people are looking for from a mayor of London is someone who is willing to bring fresh thinking and energy to old debates.”
London’s business community was divided by the issue, the Conservative mayoral candidate said.
Currently a third runway is being proposed at Heathrow by the British Airports Authority.
