Young drivers 'dangerous on road'

“Horrifying numbers” of young drivers are taking “extreme and life-threatening” risks on a regular basis, new research has shown.
Research by Green Flag and charity Brake, has found that one in three young drivers questioned admitted overtaking on a blind bend, while half said they drove while on the phone, reported the BBC.
The study also found that nine per cent of young drivers had driven while under the influence of illegal drugs.
Some admitted to overtaking and being on the phone at least once a week and Brake has called for action from the government, said the news organisation.
“The government must take steps to tackle extreme risk-taking and the appalling number of deaths and injuries involving young drivers,” said Cathy Keeler, spokeswoman for Brake.
Government statistics show that more than 14 young British drivers or passengers die on the road every week, said the BBC
Brake’s figures say that half of the people who die on Britain’s roads every year are in cars, but people that are most at risk are cyclists and motorbike and moped riders.
