Lynzi gets electric - tales from my journey on the electric bike | My first fall

Falling off one’s bike is never a pleasant experience, but falling off for the first time (as an adult rider) was particularly daunting, especially when the cause of the accident is a rogue car getting to close for comfort!

Riding to work this morning I was pulling away from some lights, and a car next to me pulled away whilst evidently not looking at the road in front of him and nearly ploughing straight into me. I swerved to avoid being hit and as I did so pulled on the electric bike’s accelerator and the bike skidded out from underneath me, and threw me off.

I immediately got back on the bike and rode off, I think I was in a slight state of shock as nothing hurt at the time. As I continued my ride I seemed to go through a rollercoaster ride of emotions, first I felt incredibly angry at the driver that had got to close to me (and had driven off), then I started to feel somewhat sad and tearful about the fact I’d fallen off my bike. When I got to work a felt slightly traumatised by the whole experience, and also realised I had actually hurt my self, only a few bumps and grazes, but enough to make me hobble about all day.

I now have become aware of the fact I am not invincible on the road, and need to be conscious of the fact that drivers are not always aware of cyclists around them – and I am also going to invest in a helmet (which I have not done before now as I thought it would mess us my hair – stupid I know!)
