Tyred of Flying

It is often little appreciated how much energy is dissipated through the tyres whilst driving.

Tyres have to help provide a smooth journey and grip the road. The downside is that they produce rolling resistance.

Michelin estimates that about a fifth of the energy used to drive a car is lost through the tyres alone. Or put it another way – around 4% of our effect on the climate is caused by car tyres. That’s about the same as all maritime transport and twice as much as all the world’s flying.

Unfortunately, driving without tyres is not recommended so in the meantime the next best option is to buy tyres that are energy efficient and made from eco-sources.

Keeping them inflated properly costs little and saves around 5% on your fuel bills (depending on how you drive).
