Joe the Plumber, Obama and climate change
The Americans spent rather a long time during their general election talking about Joe the Plumber and during his acceptance speech Barack Obama kept on making references to Bob the Builder.
Why are they fixated by handymen?
And all this talk about a high turnout. It might be a high turnout for Americans but we in Europe would regard 65% (it’s usually around 54% in America) as a very low turnout for a general election. So in Europe when there is a turnout of 65% the politicians panic that the public is apathetic whilst in America when they get a 65% voter turnout they get so excited – it’s a beginning of a new dawn.
All those queues. It was either a PR stunt or gross inefficiency. Unlike us in Europe, they just do not have enough polling stations.
Well with President Obama at the helm, at least there is a prospect that we will get a worldwide agreement on climate change.
