New electric motorcycle is Tesla of bike world
A new electric motorcycle with a range and performance to rival a 600cc petrol sports bike is being launched by an engineer who helped develop the Tesla Roadster electric sports car.
Forrest North, a former engineer at Tesla, started Mission Motors in order to build the world’s fastest production electric motorcycle. He is now taking orders for the Mission One, a sports-oriented electric motorcycle that boasts a top speed of 150 mph, a range of 150 miles and a charging time of less than three hours via a household power supply.
Regenerative braking is claimed to extend the bike’s range by about 10 per cent.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “The performance of this electric motorcycle is no compromise on its petrol-engined counterparts, so if it can make it to the marketplace at a competitive price there is a good chance it will be successful.”
“At present, electric cars and bikes are expensive compared with their petrol counterparts, but these are early days for mass-produced electric cars and bikes – the price of these green vehicles should eventually drop in price.”
