In the face of continuing economic recession in America, a car dealership in Florida has resorted to offering a ‘buy one, get one free’ deal on its stock of Dodge Rams SUV vehicles.

So far, the University Dodge dealership in Miami has sold 40 vehicles under the promotion, which promises customers a free Dodge Ram if they buy a 2008 model.

An estimated 900 car dealerships in America went out of business in 2008.

Has the 4X4 SUV had its day?

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “The popularity of 4×4 cars in America has been on the wane for some time and whilst an offer like this certainly gets publicity, it reflects the current state of the global car industry.”

Gordon Murray, the car designer responsible for some of the most exotic supercars and F1 designs of recent times, is convinced that the day of the big 4×4 SUV is passing and he is turning his hand to the design of a super-efficient green city car.
