The bicycle lock that calls your iPhone to say it’s been smashed
American inventor, Steve Hunt has designed a bicycle lock that, if tampered with, calls you on your smart phone.
The Halo Lock is a wonderfully sleek design, but its ability to alert a cyclist to the fact their bike is being stolen works only in areas served by Wi-Fi.
Tracker locks for bicycles
A spokesperson for cycle insurers ilovemybike.co.uk said: “The Halo is an impressive bit of design, but it assumes you can reach your bike before it has disappeared and that you are happy to confront the thief if you reach him in time. Cheap technology is quickly catching up with the idea of a bike that can discreetly let its owner know where it has been moved to by a thief – in the meantime a good cycle insurance policy is a must.”

| It’s not just hi-tech bicycle locks that can be used in the fight against criminals. This footage shows a Chinese cyclist using his bike to tackle two bag snatchers who are making their escape on a scooter. The riders were shocked but unharmed by the incident. |
